3. Using the students' descriptions of 'deep learning' as a measure of successful teaching and learning beliefs and practices, it was the collective visions, beliefs and practices of the faculty members and students which contributed to meaningful teaching and learning opportunities and environments (i.e. not isolated processes). This study will be significant as it has provided a foundation for the future evaluation of the effectiveness of Canadian interior design degree education. This research may also be significant in contributing to the current movement among Canadian interior design educators, which seeks stronger representation of Canadian interior design education in the North American associations. The findings of this study also suggested that students are interested in contributing to the development of teaching, learning and assessment practices, which is especially significant for the three selected interior design education programs whose faculty members each described their desire to construct and maintain student-centered learning environments. The findings of this research may also be significant in the development of assessment criterion linked to the development and achievement of interior design graduate attributes. Finally, this research provided a detailed synopsis of higher educational theory and contemporary trends in interior design degree education, and identified opportunities for further research into innovative pedagogical practices.3.
